Regulations

Barbecues should be safety-checked before use to keep you and your family safe. If your barbecue has become unsafe, due to parts like a damaged LPG cylinder or hose, those parts must be disposed of properly. Visit the Australian Government’s barbecue safety page to learn more.

Regulations may vary by city or state. Your local 1800-GOT-JUNK? team will ensure your items are properly disposed of according to local guidelines, making the process hassle-free.

Our grill disposal pricing

Our pricing is based on the space your items take up in the truck and includes all the lifting and loading from anywhere in your home. Check out our pricing page for details.

Grill disposal FAQs

Where can I go to get rid of old grills?

With 1800-GOT-JUNK?, you don’t have to go anywhere! We’ll pick up your old grill right from where it’s located and make sure it’s recycled or upcycled whenever possible—so you can enjoy hassle-free, responsible disposal.

Prefer to do it yourself? Contact your local recycling or scrap metal facility to see if they accept old grills. You may need to disassemble it before drop-off.

What do I do with old gasoline tanks?

Before you get rid of your old grill or BBQ, you’ll need to remove the propane tank. While 1800-GOT-JUNK? can safely remove your old grill and other components, we’re often not able to remove old propane tanks.

Many recycling depots, transfer stations, and landfills accept old propane tanks for disposal. It’s best to check with your local recycling center first, as rules vary by location. If recycling isn’t an option, you may need to drop it off at a transfer station or landfill.

How do I remove propane tanks from my BBQ?

Since we may not be able to remove propane tanks for you, we ask that you ensure the propane tank is fully disconnected before we remove it. Here are some tips on how to safely remove your propane tank:

  1. Make sure your propane grill is turned off.
  2. For a refillable tank, close the tank valve (turn it all the way to the right, or clockwise). Small disposable propane tanks don’t usually have valves, so you can simply unscrew the tank to remove it.
  3. Once the valve is shut, twist off the threaded pressure regulator.
  4. Remove the tank from the grill (it may be secured with a bolt or screw—simply remove this to separate the tank).
  5. Place your tank in a safe spot—do not store it indoors, even if it’s empty!

Can 1800-GOT-JUNK? haul my BBQ from my back porch or deck?

Yes, we definitely can! We’ll pick up your BBQ from wherever it’s located and load it into the truck–all you have to do is point.

How do you move a grill by yourself?

Grills are heavy and difficult to move safely. Save your time (and your back) by letting 1800-GOT-JUNK? handle everything for you.

What happens to my BBQ after you pick it up?

Once we collect your BBQ, we assess whether it can be upcycled or recycled. Recyclable parts are taken to local recycling facilities or transfer stations to help keep waste out of landfills and reduce environmental impact.

Can you throw a grill in the rubbish?

No, grills shouldn’t go in the rubbish. Most rubbish trucks won’t take them, and grills often contain hazardous materials–like propane tanks or electrical components–that require special handling.

Grills also contain valuable metal parts that can be recycled, keeping unnecessary waste out of the landfill.

Do I need to do anything before 1800-GOT-JUNK? arrives?

Nope! We’re a full-service rubbish removal company, which means you don’t have to worry about moving your items outside or to the curb before we arrive. We’ll pick up your items and handle all the lifting and loading–we’ll even sweep up when we’re done.
